As I returned to my hotel, I came across this unexpected surprise. Once I looked closer, I realized this was not your typical Saleen car. This is the 2020 Saleen 1 race car, and it will go into production next year. A modern mid-engine performance car, this vehicle will also be a competitor in the Saleen Racing Cup Racing Series. Using mostly carbon fiber, the vehicle weighs only 2700 lbs. The real surprise is the motor. Saleen cars are well known for their modified supercharged V8 engines. A 2.2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder producing 450 hp and 400 lb.ft. will be the only engine option for now. A 6-speed transmission is standard, but a paddle-shift automatic is optional. It is estimated to do 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds.
