SUPERBOWL SUPRA: THE LEGEND RETURNS

Posted by Matthew Bryant on

If you watched the Superbowl last night (so boring) you may have seen a commercial for the new Toyota GR Supra. This legendary car returns after going on hiatus in 2002 with a totally new design.  The 3.0 turbo inline-6 engine got a makeover with 335 hp and 365 lb-ft. The new Supra is estimated to do 0-60 around 4.1 seconds.  Only 2 trim levels will be offered, the 3.0 and 3.0 Premium.  Both will have automatic transmissions (cue the boos from the crowd).

I’d say “Let’s Go Places” in this ride, but I kinda prefer the last  model they made before ending production in 2002. Maybe I’m still hooked on it because it was the red Supra that Paul Walker drove in the original Fast and Furious movie.  It was wide and aggressive and most people that had one could easily modify it into a race-ready, crazy-colored, drifting performer.  I’m not sure how this version of a cult favorite will go over with the public, but I guess we’re about to find out.
